About the Author
Michael G. Maxfield is Professor of Criminal Justice at John Jay College, City University of New York. He is the author of numerous articles and books on a variety of topics, including victimization, policing, homicide, community corrections, and long-term consequences of child abuse and neglect. Working with students and colleagues at the John Jay College Research and Evaluation Center, Professor Maxfield developed the evidence generation approach to applied justice research. He is editor of the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency.

Earl R. Babbie graduated from Harvard University before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and began teaching shortly thereafter. Credited with defining research methods for the social sciences, Dr. Babbie has written several texts, including the bestselling THE PRACTICE OF SOCIAL RESEARCH and THE BASICS OF SOCIAL RESEARCH.

This textbook is the dullest book ever!!! This textbook gave me a headache every time I had to read a chapter. It doesn't explain critical things in the simplest form and I find the chapters too wordy to be saying too much of nothing.

Poor condition

This book has been through a lot. Coffee stains all over. Hard cover is damaged on all four sides. Writings in all the pages with underlines with pens. Highlighter of all colors have been used. This book should not have been rented to people. I took pictures upon receiving it for records.

Book was a hard read not easy to follow I felt like it was written to only be read by a math genius it was confusing and hard to understand. I did not like the way this book was written or hope it flowed.

About the Author
Julian Knight was born in 1972 in Chester. He was educated at the Chester Catholic High School and later Hull University, where he obtained a degree in History. Since 2002 Julian has been the BBC News personal finance and consumer affairs reporter and has won many awards for his journalism. Before this, he worked for Moneywise magazine and wrote for The Guardian amongst many other publications. He has also authored Wills, Probate & Inheritance Tax For Dummies and Retiring Wealthy For Dummies.
Julian has played league cricket for 20 years. He is a former captain at Blackheath Cricket Club and has played for several clubs in London and the north west of England.

Gary Palmer played first-class cricket as an all-rounder with Somerset for ten years. He has since developed a successful career as a cricket coach and holds the English Cricket Board’s Level III coaching qualification. He has taught other coaches as part of the ECB Coaching Team and has also been involved with delivering the Centre of Excellence programme to Regional and National Youth Squads. During the winter of 1995/6 he worked in South Africa at the Eastern Province Cricket Academy as Head Coach, and since then his top-class coaching experience has included working with the Australian Test team in 2001, the India Test team in 2002, and the Sri Lanka Touring team in 2002. He established the CricketCoachMaster Academy in 2003, with the aim of providing boys aged between 15 and 19 who want to become professional cricketers with a cricketing experience in a first-class environment. Gary currently works as a specialist batting coach for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

Great reference for US cricket enthusiasts

I fell in love with Cricket while deployed to Diego Garcia several years ago. We watched Cricket matches broadcast to on South African satellite TV. For anyone who hasn't a clue what the game is all about, this book is a FABULOUS read. Though most of the references to teams and County Cricket are obviously more meaningful to British readers, the level of detail and explanation is great for US fans. Breakdowns on the fielding, bowling, and batting aspects of the game flow smoothly and are extremely easy to follow. The history and current state of the game sections give you a real feel for just how very large Cricket is in the rest of the world and makes my sorry we can't embrace what is really the most civilized of sporting events still being played. (What 300 pound lineman would be caught dead taking "Drinks" or the "Tea Interval" at halftime at the Super Bowl?!) Pick up a copy and get a good handle on the great game that we turned into baseball!

I was a bit disappointed in this book because I was hoping to learn about cricket so that I could better understand when I am watching a match. About half this book is spent on tips on how to play and practice cricket.

Valuable - but has problems

This is a good book. However, it is not really a good first book. In fact, it is short on one of the most needed features for the beginner: an exhaustive index of all those nutty terms. Eg. try to find a "Chinaman".

Of course, this book has considerable information on many items that are really needed. e.g. the 'how-to' of bowling many of those strange throws.

I would suggest reading "Cricket Explained" by Robert Eastaway first. It is shorter and initially more useful. You will also want "Cricket for Dummies" as well. If there is an Amazon special for both - go for it.

About the Author
From an early age Erica Jago has been innately interested in exploring spiritual domains in life through dance, art, music, and athleticism. She earned an industrial design degree from The Ohio State University and has been a graphic designer in San Francisco since 2001. Studying and practicing yoga for more than ten years has been an ever-evolving way to express her truth, creativity, and emotions. and absorb over time. Each detail of the book was clearly chosen with thought: the paper has a luscious feel,
the imagery is understated and powerful, the words
and their placement
have the presence of awakened authors and invite you to your own awakening.

Elena Brower’s “Art Of Attention” yoga workbook is a feast for the senses. The book lures the practioner; be it teacher, new-to-yoga student or yoga pro’ into the realm of receptivity. We are invited to enjoy the healing balm yoga offers during one’s practice.
There are layers of information offered through largely pictorial language. This is a highly visual book and if you are attuned to the visual, this is the yoga book for you. The words offered are clear and concise, beyond the words lie the poetry the imagery conveys.
Flowing inwards to meet yourself. The Art Of Attention invites you to create your own home practice. Be it in your home, or making yourself, ‘at home’ wherever you are through the vocabulary of asana and breath, and presence, or as Elena states, we start to pay “Attention”.
One of the elements I most enjoyed in the book was the setting for the photographs. The Burning Man Nevada Desert juxtaposed with the yogini’s living room. One imagines the artist travels with a personal photographer as the shots feel so intimately caught. These inspiring images alongside contemplative themes and ‘how to do the asana’ sketches make this a delectable workbook and intriguing companion to hang out with again and again.

Thank-you for integrating such beauty and artistry into this book. From the cover I was anticipating more blank pages with zen koans occupying center stage, a more heady approach if you like. I could not have been more wrong. I was delighted to immerse myself in the richly layered teaching that shines forth from this radiantly feminine shaman from cover to cover.

I have been so pleased that I ordered this book.

I teach Yoga and I think for me its such a nourishing book for my own practice, but also a great inspiration for my classes.

Its really bought such a healing, calming and grounding energy to my practice.

Its perfect for people who want a home yoga practice, or who want inspiration for teaching, or just a beautiful companion.

Seriously Elena and Erica are awesome, inspiring and welcoming.

Its one of my favourite books, and believe me I have a passion for Yoga books and have quite the collection.

This book asks you to read it without judgement. If you can truly do this and read it with an open mind and heart then your life could change forever. You lie awake in the middle iof the night crying silently into your pillow. So many things in your life don't make sense. You look at the world and it seems ludicrous too, with division, separation, needless slaughter of innocence. Something inside you is screaming in pain. AUTHOR’S NOTE I was born on April 25, 1923 in Budapest, Hungary. When I was 17, my parents and I immigrated to the United States. On Dec 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the United States entered World War II. Soon afterwards, I was drafted into the Army. During my initial stay at Ft. Dix, NJ, the Army discovered that I possessed an important asset. I was able to speak fluent Hungarian, German, French, some English and had studied Latin for eight years in school. My language skills made me the perfect candidate to become a member of military intelligence, later the OSS. I was sent to Camp Ritchie, MD (near the current site of Camp David), for intelligence training. After training, my duties included interrogating German prisoners of war and working alone in occupied France to establish an “underground railroad” for the return of US Airmen who were shot down over enemy territory. Once the war was over, I returned to civilian life in the United States. Like so many other returning soldiers, I did not want to talk about my experiences during the war. The memories were too painful and I wanted to forget. About 6 or 7 years ago, I began talking with Rev. Ralph T. Dirksen about my military service. He was the associate pastor of my church. Ralph convinced me that my story needed to be told so the younger generation could learn about the history of - V - the war from me and other surviving soldiers. We began to write a book. I wanted to tell my story, but I also wanted it to be alive to the reader. We decided to make it a fictional account, based entirely on my actual experiences. In the book, Alex Evans plays my character. Writing continued until Rev. Ralph was transferred to another church in New York State. The unfinished book has sat on my shelf for many years. I have decided to complete the book that Ralph and I began. I used the outline Ralph developed to complete my book. I am happy to share it with you, my family and friends, in honor of my 90th Birthday celebration. This is my story, my memories and my gift to you. I hope you enjoy reading it and learning a little more about my history and the history of World War II. Fred

I had the privilege of traveling on an Honor Flight of West Central Florida trip with Fred about 2 years ago and found out that he had written a book about his experiences in WWII as a tribute to his 90th birthday. Fred had an amazing life and career in the military and I am proud and honored to have gotten to know him during his Honor Flight trip to view the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Fred is a true hero and I am glad his story can be shared. I think this story of his life would make a great movie too!

I was a friend of Fred for over 50 years and I can tell you it is a true story of how he organize an escape route for pilots in occupied France during ww2. Very interesting reading
