Destination Eden is clearly one of the true spiritual-ethical books everyone needs to read in order to awaken and understand what our true biological diet and lifestyle needs are. If we are to survive as a species and co-exist with other beings, we need to understand that "Eden Fruitarian", as Mango Wodzak coined, is what we need to embrace in our lives if we want to create a world of peace and love. No longer can we argue against the fact, that eating food from the Garden of Eden is what our bodies' are biologically designed for. A highly recommended book for everyone.

Very well-written and important read on a complex and often misunderstood topic. Still not sold on the idea that people should eat *exclusively* fruit, but I do think its significance has been downplayed and that its availability/accessibility needs to be increased. I especially appreciated, as a vegan, that this author spoke to the fact that veganism is NOT a diet-- it is a philosophy that encompasses many, many essential lifestyle changes and, more importantly than any of these, a radical shift in perspective on how we relate to nonhuman animals.

Part two narrates their three-week journey through China where they visited historical sites and made important decisions about how to accurately portray Mulan's world. Part three is an investigation of the production itself: story line, animation, colors, effects, digital techniques, and the all-important casting of animators. Part four describes the experience of creating the film for some of the individuals of the team. Over 350 illustrations provide majesty and magic; some are colorful double-page spreads, others are line drawings from the storyboard, and four are graceful transparencies that separate the sections. Based on a Chinese legend of a girl who disguises herself as a soldier to take her father's place in the army, Mulan plays down the love interest prominent in newer Disney animated features and plays up the heroine's brains, courage, and skill. The coffee-table commemoration of the film, however, adheres to its predecessors' format. It details the movie's history and production and presents more than 350 beautifully produced illustrations that include early conceptual drawings and character designs, background paintings (many evocative of classic Chinese watercolors), and production stills. The text discusses the animators' visit to China to research the story's setting and the film's overall visual design, which stresses elements and simplifications that are common to both traditional Chinese art and effective animation. Intelligently written at last!

I have noticed the number of reviewers for 'Art of Mulan'who criticized it for not going into the animation process deeply enough. I am of the opinion that such elementary explanation of animation is not the function of these books. There are no shortage of instructional books if you want to learn about animation. Myself, I soaked up the much more detailed analysis of the Making of Mulan. I was most intrigued by the issues faced in making a western film but still faithful to the values and depiction of Chinese culture. Plus, this book contains the sharpest words yet put forward by a Disney representative in defense of Disney's methods of adaptation, and comments on critics who deride Disney as a whole for 'ruining' classic legends, whereas adaptation of a legend to a contemporary audience has been happening for centuries and is nothing new. Great book. Great art.
...and what the hell was the 'disgusting' nude art referred to by one reviewer! There was nothing indecent in the art that I could recall.

An inspirational look at creating animation

[[VIDEOID:31977351]]What a wonderful art book this is, on Disney's Mulan.

I really couldn't put it down after reading it. It tells a very clear and interesting story on how the movie was created. Disney put huge emphasis on stories. The different story artists would discuss at lengths in this book on the considerations they made when trying to adapt Chinese history into a Western film. There were ideas to make Mulan a romantic comedy, which were luckily shot down, in an attempt to keep the film authentic.

The research process is most interesting and takes a look at the artists as they travel tthroughout China, visiting places like the Great Wall, Forbidden City and other ancient cities. It's a great learning process for them, when they were there, and for the readers, as we read from their experiences now.

All the concept art, storyboards and film stills presented are always related back to the story. The artists will always be there to explain how their design supports the story. So it's a great insight into how to do production design.

While the movie is animated, the book doesn't talk about animation technically.

This art book is the learning process of creating an animated film. It's fun, fresh and delightful to read. It should appeal greatly to animators, production designers and artists.

Finding Bigfoot

I admit that I'm not *the* greatest fan of “The Adventures of Tintin”. As a kid, I actually disliked what most other people like about Hergé's stories: the slapstick humor and the constant outbursts (and drinking bouts) of Captain Archibald Haddock. I still consider them somewhat annoying. Haddock isn't included in this particular adventure (despite the Scottish setting), but the slapstick is there, together with the fast-paced action. Apparently, “The Black Island” is one of the most popular Tintin adventures. I consider it so-so. But yes, given my interest in crypto-zoology, it's interesting that our young hero actually finds a monster in Scotland…and it isn't Nessie!

This is the edition in Scottish Gaelic, by the way.

Great robot combat book for beginners

This book is a must read for those new to the sport and who are interested in R/C robot combat tournaments. It primarily focuses on the basics of robot construction, from locomotion to weapon systems to robot fighting styles. Basic robot physics, tactics and acquiring sponsorship are covered as well. It also presents the issues involved with putting on your own tournament. There are helpful tips from a large assortment of knowledgeable people including top builders, vendors, tournament organizers and more. If you are new to the sport, it is an indispensable source of helpful information. Many `newbie' mistakes can be avoided with the experience gained from the book. If you have already had lots of robot combat exposure you should recognize most of the material as fundamental, yet it can still be an interesting and informative read.

Not what i expected

When i ordered this book i was hoping to find a book that would be more helpful in my own creation of a warrior robot. This book contained more information that seems like it should be obvious such as getting a good team together. Their was very little actual useful information when it comes to the actual engineering of a warrior robot which, based on the title, seems like it would be the actual focus of the book. Overall i was incredibly disappointed with this book.

Very Shallow Coverage.

This book has the feel of something that was dashed off in a few weeks to meet a publishing deadline. The photos poorly illustrate the text, and many of the photos are inexplicably re-used at multiple points in the book -- apparently just as 'filler'.

The text does cover some of the basic questions a robot builder might pose, but there certainly is not enough detail to enable someone to actually construct a sucessful combat robot.

There are many better books available on this subject. Search them out and add them to your library before you consider this purchase.

A Remarkable Analysis of 9/11

I don’t often review books, but decided to review this one for a number of reasons. First, its author is an eminent physical scientist as well as having an admirable grasp of world geopolitical realities. So, I find him more qualified than most to authoritatively digest and cogently explain what took place on 9/11 affecting the world in general on that awful focal day, which most contemporary writers opt to blink (or wink) out of view as an event in itself, and set it into universally meaningful context. Dr. Kamran’s writing is unusually clear, hence the sometimes abstruse content he discusses is made uncommonly comprehensible.

Second, his is a clear voice coming from the Muslim world, something habitually touted by westerners as an impossible contradiction of terms. He succeeds at performing this reputed feat – seemingly without effort – because his is not a voice of Islam or theocracy, but one of science (something that has gotten him into considerable trouble at times in the realm in which he lives, just as it has the too-rare western scientific voices, since Galileo and even back to Socrates, who have placed scientific principles in the forefront). As an important consequence, Dr. Mujahid doesn’t go in for judgment-clouding sectarian denouncement or attribution without specific evidence. His tone is determinedly descriptive, penetrating and far-reaching, not bombastic. He seems to me a surprising model for all of us in those respects.

Third, this book, while not particularly lengthy, is the most comprehensive single-volume digest of all that is known and most plausibly conjectured about both 9/11 itself and the broader unfolding conspiratorial context that produced it, as well as manifold other artificially (i.e., by artifice) added and deliberately-produced woes and atrocities from which the populace of the earth suffers and is overdue for radical redress.

Dr. Mujahid Kumran, a man in his mid-60s, educated in his native Pakistan, in Saudi Arabia, and at Scotland’s Edinburgh University, is a longtime professor of physics and Vice-Chancellor at Punjab University in Lahore. He is also the author of several previous books on physical science and biography, etc., and of The Grand Deception: Corporate America and Perpetual War (2011).

The book I am reviewing here is an information-filled exploration of both 9/11 and the ‘New World Order’ controlled by nabobs of global central banking. This truly remarkable book, published in Pakistan on September 11, 2013, is 384 pages in length, including index, and offers simply the best, clearest, and most readable survey of the identity and nature of the NWO I’ve seen to date, to which he attributes the inspired forces culminating in and deftly dodging responsibility ever since for the 9/11 debacle. As I’ve mentioned in passing, one thing I’m impressed about with this book is its clear but careful balanced approach. Although emanating from a Muslim country, the book refers to the apparent Israeli involvement matter-of-factly, exhibiting no signs of anti-Semitic bigotry.

As for 9/11, Dr. Kamran surveys the known and sensibly surmised facts with studied thoroughness, adding trenchant interpretive observations of his own throughout that I found to really make a great deal of sense. This factual and annotative tendency characterized as well his stellar technical treatment as a scientist of nanothermite, its nature, presence, and apparent usage and a slew of other physical evidence and aspects of evidence, on which he convincingly demonstrated his particular fitness to address. But yet, the presentation in the book remains exceedingly clear, easy to follow, and compulsive reading.

Personally, I thought I’d seen and read most of the credible material in book form regarding 9/11 and it anomalies – like a number of you, I’m sure, my shelves contain scores of such volumes. Yet Dr. Kamran cites and quotes extensively from both sources I was familiar with, and also from lots and lots of books and authors of obviously wonderful books and articles I’d never heard of before – certainly a rare feat for a scientifically-attuned author in a part of the world as far afield as Pakistan. Plus, I gained a ton of new, fresh information and perspective-changing insights.

IMHO, every serious student of its two perceptively entwined subjects should obtain and read this book. My copy arrived direct from Lahore, Pakistan, in a package that would be a stamp-collector’s dream. Though available from Amazon.com and elsewhere on line, it’s not cheap to buy, but well worth the price. And if you search a bit, you can find a copy for less. Heartily recommended.

The best book on compressible fluid flow.

This is a very good book on compressible fluid flow. It shows you the mecanism of this kind of fluid flow in such a way that it becomes very understandable. This is a very good reference to lern the basis for applications such as gas turbines and jet propulsion, for exemple.

Best engineering textbook ever

I used this book in a graduate course on compressible flow in about 1957. Without hesitation, I consider this the best textbook I have encountered in a 45 year engineering career. In later years I used it often in my work, and I still have it. I browse it occasionally when I want to be reminded how much fun being an engineer can be.

The incredible talent of Rutherford for designing simple experiments that yielded monumental data - and his insightful interpretations of these for nature - come shining through. There is no better way to celebrate the centenary of his Noble Prize in 1908, than to have a read.

Classic Work by a Great Physicist with an Excellent Foreward by Frank Wilczek

Ernest Rutherford is universally recognized as one of the great experimentalists in the history of physics. The discoveries Rutherford details were made over 100 years ago, but some of the issues are still studied today. The period Rutherford chronicles is one of the most energetic and exciting in the history of any science. Einstein, Thomson, Lorentz, Curie, Poincaré, Langevin, Planck, de Broglie, and of course Rutherford himself were already very active. Bohr, Heisenberg, Dirac, Schrödinger, Pauli, and others were just about to arrive. Some readers may have seen photos of the scientists at the several Solvay conferences -- that can give you a sense of the time.

Rutherford's book has been in print for over 100 years. But this edition also includes a 30+ page foreward by Frank Wilczek, a Nobel laureate in physics and author of several great books for non-specialists. The foreward is almost reason enough (almost) to buy the book.
