AUTHOR’S NOTE I was born on April 25, 1923 in Budapest, Hungary. When I was 17, my parents and I immigrated to the United States. On Dec 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the United States entered World War II. Soon afterwards, I was drafted into the Army. During my initial stay at Ft. Dix, NJ, the Army discovered that I possessed an important asset. I was able to speak fluent Hungarian, German, French, some English and had studied Latin for eight years in school. My language skills made me the perfect candidate to become a member of military intelligence, later the OSS. I was sent to Camp Ritchie, MD (near the current site of Camp David), for intelligence training. After training, my duties included interrogating German prisoners of war and working alone in occupied France to establish an “underground railroad” for the return of US Airmen who were shot down over enemy territory. Once the war was over, I returned to civilian life in the United States. Like so many other returning soldiers, I did not want to talk about my experiences during the war. The memories were too painful and I wanted to forget. About 6 or 7 years ago, I began talking with Rev. Ralph T. Dirksen about my military service. He was the associate pastor of my church. Ralph convinced me that my story needed to be told so the younger generation could learn about the history of - V - the war from me and other surviving soldiers. We began to write a book. I wanted to tell my story, but I also wanted it to be alive to the reader. We decided to make it a fictional account, based entirely on my actual experiences. In the book, Alex Evans plays my character. Writing continued until Rev. Ralph was transferred to another church in New York State. The unfinished book has sat on my shelf for many years. I have decided to complete the book that Ralph and I began. I used the outline Ralph developed to complete my book. I am happy to share it with you, my family and friends, in honor of my 90th Birthday celebration. This is my story, my memories and my gift to you. I hope you enjoy reading it and learning a little more about my history and the history of World War II. Fred

I had the privilege of traveling on an Honor Flight of West Central Florida trip with Fred about 2 years ago and found out that he had written a book about his experiences in WWII as a tribute to his 90th birthday. Fred had an amazing life and career in the military and I am proud and honored to have gotten to know him during his Honor Flight trip to view the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Fred is a true hero and I am glad his story can be shared. I think this story of his life would make a great movie too!

a disappointing read

I was very diappointed in this book. Having read the reviews I looked forward to receiving it but in fact I thought it no better than generic dog book descriptions of the havanese breed. So many of these books, like 'Puppies for dummies' for instance, just repeat the same old stuff. I really wanted to know more about choosing and raising a havanese puppy, but it was of little use as its main focus seemed to be for potential breeders. There was very little about health problems, temperament or behaviour. In fact the book's layout and presentation looks 20 years old and I have already given my copy away to a thrift shop.

Good for under $10

This is a good inexpensive book to get you started. I breed Havanese and I purchased several copies of this book for under $10, including shipping, as a gift for the new puppy owners. The book is a quick and easy read and it explains the history, characteristics, and standards for the breed. It explains what you need to know about adopting and caring for a puppy. I highly recommend this book for any new Havanese owner or if you are considering a Havanese. Again, this is an inexpensive book, it retails for $14.95 and you should find it cheaper on the internet.

Outstanding revelations about End-time council (Rev.12)

I've read a lot of detailed books about the three levels of spiritual warfare, but this book is as far as I know the only one who describes an end-time council of satanic princes, which exists since the fall of satan and his angels, but operates in these last days more than ever against the Ecclesia of Christ Yeshua. So the informations in this book are very helpful to get victory through Yeshua over this council of the enemy and it is written for prayer warriors, intercessors and deliverance ministers, as well as, all five fold ministry leaders. I recommend to prayerfully read it with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and to test the revelations within it with the "Logos" of the bible. For me it complements books like "Satans General's" from Madelene Eayrs, books from Ap. John Eckhardt or Tom Knotts.

The best of the Smith Wigglesworth books

This is not only the best book I've read about Smith Wigglesworth--in that it benefited me spiritually--but I actually found it more beneficial than reading Wigglesworth's own books. I found the story of his life to be more instructive (for me) than reading what he had to say. Perhaps what he had to say is too far above me for me to really understand thoroughly. I'm not talking about intellectually, of course, but spiritually.
I've read his "collected teachings" and will read again, but I know I am missing much of what he is saying. His life, however, taught me so much, and I think the author portrayed it beautifully in letting it speak for itself, yet adding just enough interpretation to make it more meaningful to the reader.
Something that bothered me at first was Smith saying that the Lord said He was going to "burn up" every bit of Smith Wigglesworth until only Jesus was left. I know the Lord values our individuality. He created us to be individuals, and I believe the closer we come to Him, the more our individuality shows. And certainly Smith had a very distinctive personality, as was pointed out in this book. I realized later that the part of me that God wants to "burn up" is the part that is not good, the part that is blocking the true individual personality from full expression. The more yielded I am to Jesus, the more distinctively MYSELF I am. That is why Smith Wigglesworth was such a strongly individualistic person--he let the Lord get rid of a lot of the stuff that was clouding his true self.
I know that Smith sometimes used what I am sure were inappropriate ways to release his faith for people's healing, but he knew when he was truly operating in faith and therefore had no failures. Oh, to know that kind of faith! His example is to live with a continuous awareness of the God's presence.

I consider this book as a revelation of a great men of God who walked with God, and how we can live at this same level of Intimacy with God in our daily life, I love his great hunger and thirst for more abundance and a depth relationship with the Spirit of God.

Gravitas is a no-nonsense book - an easy read - that helps to channel your thinking as to why you have a voice and how you want to be considered. Anyone - a teacher, public speaker, an assistant rising to manager who needs to be taken more seriously in meetings, a salesperson who wants to win in a pitch, an interviewee, a mom who wants more oomph with her kids - would be advised to tuck into this book.

When reading Gravitas, I kept thinking, why am I on MY Path, what can I do to further myself with my Poise and Voice, how can I convert negative thoughts into positive, cool and calming seniority that brings people towards me rather than pushing them away?

I know in my mind how I want to come across, but gravitas is needed to convince others especially when under/over confident. This book showed me how - not just at work but in the smallest things in my personal life too - to be more convincing and less emotional.

I was first made aware of Caroline Goyder when I read her piece on CNN entitled, "What ancient Romans can teach you about leadership." I was immediately drawn in by her words and assigned the book to my team as part of our leadership reading series. It was by far one of our favorite books. You can tell that Caroline knows her craft and is a great teacher and writer. She introduces the reader to some fairly sophisticated topics in concise and easily digestible pieces. I will continue to use this book as a reference while building my own personal as well as professional brand. I was so delighted to see Caroline has put her "genius" in a book and share the tremendous work she does. Gravitas is a must-read for anyone who wants to up their communication skills. With her usual clarity, she outlines the steps for developing your skills as a speaker and amplifying and enhancing your innate presence and gravitas. We all have it. You just need someone like Caroline to show you how to access it. I know the value of Caroline's work first hand because she took me from someone who couldn't stand up and speak in front of others to where I am now...a member of the National Speakers Association and constantly speaking to small and large audiences. Her book is a fine investment.
