Professor review--don't assign this text to your students

As a prof, I was happy to assign this book. After all, I loved Robbins' Global Problems and the Culture of Capitalism (4th Edition) (a fabulous book), and I needed a basic anthro text to provide basics. And, indeed, many basic anthropological themes are offered. However, the organization and style of presentation are terribly awkward. The book is more or less ruined by a question and answer format. The text is boring to read, and difficult to work with. I found it very difficult to integrate into my course. Say, for example, I wanted to work with kinship... the book's strange splicing of the subject, teamed with its fumbled questions, left me flummoxed. I will continue to look for Robbins work, but I will never assign this book again.

i got it for my anthropoloy class but it is actually really intersting. It ask some really deep questions. I even read it when i was done with the class.

Had the small-town saint led the sinner to salvation? Or would Austin merely give his child a name--and Rebecca everlasting heartache?
I wanted to give it 3 stars but because it is the best in the series, I gave it four. All the brothers and their half-sister get their own story. I've read them all, just not in order. Rebecca's character in THE BEST BRIDE, seemed somewhat stronger then in this one. Also she is in charge of a home for unwanted/orphaned children and can't remember to use birth control! And Austin, who brings his lovers to his home has no condoms anywhere? This just strained my belief somewhat. If you can get over this, the story moves along and develops with a nice pace and likable people.

Pleasant fast read - steamy romance

This book has a very nice flow -- it is a quick read -- very nice characters. The only negative -- I felt that the man (Austin) was a bit too victimized near the end. He insisted on the marriage and then spent a good portion of the rest of the book trying to talk himself out of it... Well the ending was very happy....

Sadly this book is.not on Kindle, I ha to hunt for it in oder to complete he Homeown Heartbreaker series. Austinand Rebecca's story in many ways drags on in places, his mysterious past never totally explained, despite his sharing bits an pieces with Rebecca. The story kept.me glued to tbe pages and aftr reading the rest of the series I had to know his story.

I found this gem in my local library. Never gone wrong with a Higgins yet. By the way, this is one of three titles written under the name Harry Patterson ( aka Jack Higgins- in case you look for it).

What could've happened to the romantic figure of Dillinger, the robin hood of the 30's...

Filled with adventure! Apaches, bandits, oppressed local populace, corrupt police, bank robbery, evil villain, daring feats and of course a beautiful woman!

I especially liked the fact that the old-fashioned and supposedly outdated concept of honor is brought into play. Throw in a tough situation, the rescue of a little girl, and the real good guys show themselves, get together and do what's right and the bad guys well...they just keep on getting crazier!

This is a wonderful adventure. If you haven't read it I reccommend this book. Especially to Higgins fans, you probobly haven't thought of this one!

Good Adventure Yarn

This is one of three books that Jack Higgins published under his real name Harry Patterson. Although based on John Dillinger the book is a work of fiction. After robbing a bank, John Dillinger flees to Mexico where he is essentially forced to work for the owner of a mining operation. Of course, Dillinger is not one to be forced into working for anyone and plans his escape - but other events overtake him. The story has some good twists and turns and plenty of action.

What doesn't give this book a full 5 out of 5 is the fact that he made John Dillinger seem like a respectful pretty-boy. By also having him speak fluent Spanish in the book just seems ridiculous to me. Fun read nonetheless.
