Good book for graduate students beginning their research in AI and multiagent systems

This has been a good reference. The authors chosen for each chapter are at the top of their field, and the lists of references are recent. Exercises at the end of nearly all chapters are provided at various levels of difficulty, the highest of which "could even be a topic of a PhD" (page xl).
